Your files and privacy
Agnos reads, cleans and exports your documents on this computer. Nothing about them is uploaded, and there is no account to create.
This is the practical version. The formal privacy policy also covers this website and buying a licence.
Where your files are
Your library is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Agnos, usually C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Agnos. The program is installed separately, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Agnos unless you chose another folder.
| Folder | What is in it |
|---|---|
data | The database, the copies of the files you added, the cleaned text, the removed pieces, the exports, and the licence. |
logs | launcher.log (starting, stopping, which port) and server.log (requests, jobs, errors). |
run | The running server's session file. |
- Your original files are never changed. Agnos works on its own copy of each file, and deletes that copy after cleaning if you turn off Keep the original file (Settings › Processing).
- Exports are built in the
datafolder and removed after 24 hours. The copy you download is saved wherever your browser saves downloads. - Agnos does not encrypt your library, so anyone who can run programs as your Windows user can read it. If your documents are sensitive, use Windows disk encryption.
- Agnos also records the day the trial started, and the latest day it has seen, in the registry under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gidion\Agnos, so reinstalling does not restart the trial.
What goes online
Only your licence. Agnos goes online to activate a licence key, to check it about once a week, and to deactivate a device. All three go to Polar, the company that sells Agnos on our behalf, at https://api.polar.sh, and send only:
- the licence key;
- the seller's organisation id, which is the same for every customer;
- when activating, a name for this device: the computer's name;
- after activating, the activation id Polar gave back.
Each request also says it comes from Agnos 2. No document, file name, text, count or setting is sent, and nothing identifies the computer beyond its name. Polar sees your IP address, as any website does.
- The trial sends nothing. Its dates are kept on this computer.
- A failed check changes nothing. Only if no check has succeeded for 60 days does exporting pause, until one does; see Licence checks.
- An offline key is checked on your computer and sends nothing.
- Buying opens Polar's checkout in your own browser. Agnos makes no request of its own.
There is no update check, crash reporting, usage statistics or analytics. If you ever see Agnos make any other connection, it is a bug: please tell us at [email protected].
Working offline
The Agnos window is served by Agnos on this computer and loads nothing from the internet: no fonts, icons, scripts, analytics or tracking. Import, clean, review and export all work with the network unplugged.
Only activating a key and deactivating a device need a connection. A key bought online also needs one successful check in any 60 days to keep exporting; an offline key needs none.
Agnos only answers the window its own shortcut opened, so another program or a web page cannot use it to read your library.
Logs
The two log files record what happened, not what your documents say: file names, sizes, counts, rule names, timings and errors. Document text is never logged. Logs never leave your computer; if support asks for one, you send it yourself, and you can read it first.
Deleting your data
- One file
- On the Import step, the bin on a file's card deletes the file and everything made from it, straight away.
- A project
- Projects can only be archived, which deletes nothing. To remove a project's documents, delete its files.
- Everything
- Uninstall Agnos and answer Yes to “Also delete your Agnos library?” (the default is No), or delete
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Agnosyourself after uninstalling. Apart from exports you downloaded, Agnos keeps nothing about your content anywhere else. - Your licence
- Before you wipe or give away a computer with a key bought online, press Deactivate this device on the Licence page while it is online. See Moving to a new computer.
